With a total area of 8250 km2 and a costline of 1050 Crete is the largest island of Greece.

 

Cretes length is 265 km and the width is 60 km. The narrowest part of Crete of 15km, gives way from Pachia Amos to Ierapetra, the southernmost town of Europe. The island has approximately 700.000 inhabitants.

 

The 4 provinces of Crete are: Chania, Rethymno, Iraklio and Lasithi. Cretes main income is from the agriculture and the tourism. The landscape of the island consist mainly of mountains. In the west of Crete are the White Mountains, a massive mountain with a height of 2450 meters. In the middle of Crete you can find the Lasithi Mountains, a chain of mountains with a height of 2145 meters, where you can find the Lasithi plateau. On Crete you can find Europe s longest gorge, the Gorge of Samaria.

 

The coasts of Crete are a mixture of beautiful sandy beaches in the north and small bays in the South. On the island of Crete you can find also some of the most famous archeological sites, like the palast os Knossos with the fascinating labyrinth.
